On Sat 28 0ctober 2023, three members and friend visited the stunning gardens at BIRCHWOOD OPEN GARDEN raising money for Cancer Council Victoria & Benalla & Wangaratta Hospitals. This garden is a wonderful display of mature shade trees and Salvias, Iris, Peonies, Spring bulbs, Hellebores, Clematis, Roses, Shrubs, Natives, Lush Lawns, Plant Stalls, Lead Light Dream Catchers, Mosaic Birdbaths , Benalla Music Band and Light Refreshment. The weather was kind with the sun shining a lovely cooler climate garden on the hill, very well set out and lovingly tended. The different kinds of Salvias were absolutely gorgeous with all in abundant flower. It was IRIS heaven with huge clumps popping their amazing colour heads up in the sunshine. The huge flowers on the Peonies were side plate size in all colours. The Clematis nestling at the base of the many arbours were putting on a show of size and bright colours. There were lots of RUSTY garden art dotted throughout the gardens to look at. A very enjoyable wander.

We then went to the Benalla Botanical Gardens to view the stunning colourful ROSE display. The wind had played havoc with some of the roses but there was still plenty to see. The diversity of rose varieties and the perfume was overwhelming. This garden is a credit to the Benalla Parks and gardens staff, with a wonderful playground for the children and lots of shady old trees and lawn. A very enjoyable day by us avid gardeners.
