14 members and friends enjoyed a wonderful visit to YACKATOON GARDENS COOMBOONA a short drive from nearby Shepparton & Mooroopna. Situated against a backdrop of eucalypt forest at Thompson Bend on the Goulburn River. The gardens are formal, in an ENGLISH style & comprise of 16 acres planted around a free form lake. Characterised by immaculately trimmed hedges, vast manicured lawns and vibrant roses, with renaissance inspired statues with a pair of white marble fountains. Original site of small dairy farm, with homestead and dairy dating to the early 1900’s. All lovingly restored by Carmel with lots of work in improving soil and plantings many the result of self sowing , she lets the plants go to seed and then thins out what comes up the following spring. Many years of hard work make it such a lovely place to visit, encouraged in spring when the gardens are at there best. There is also a wonderful TEA ROOMS/CAFE and NURSERY, with delicious Devonshire Tea served in the gardens so you can enjoy the vista of the property.
